Annuncio: The psychology of irrational thought and of science
Inviato: JoeClark @ Mer Nov 15, 2017 11:50 am
Hi All,

I have decided to place this "rant" here. I really believe that science will help all of us understand others. The western world is being rapidly polarized by political and religious thinking. It seems obvious to some that the principles of religion should make those who believe such principles into better people. Perhaps not. There is a great divide between the discoveries being made in science and those who are practicing believers and some are seeing a open front developing in conflict with those with rational concepts.

Annuncio: A few problems with Quantum Mechanics
Inviato: JoeClark @ Mar Nov 14, 2017 6:58 am
I am having trouble understanding a few problems regarding Quantum Mechanics. I believe that those are mathematical problems really, but I have tried to read through all kinds of Linear Algebra books and can't seem to figure it out.
I am having trouble with the first part. I am not sure how to construct that matrix and am really not familiar with this notation of the operators. Once I got the matrix, I believe I would know how to calculate eigenvectors and eigenvalues.

Annuncio: Planetary orbits are not elliptical
Inviato: JoeClark @ Sab Nov 11, 2017 1:19 pm
Think about a plate or any flat circular plane. In the center is a huge black hole. On the the outer fringe of the plane lies our Sun. It is going around the plane in orbit of the black hole. Now picture our planets orbiting the Sun but they are orbiting perpendicular to the plane. They circle the Sun going up and down through the plate. If you have that visual correct the this should come clear. Throughout the plane, time varies due to a varying gravitational force from the black hole at the center, where it is strongest at the center and weakest at the edge.

Annuncio: Accelerating Expansion Of The Universe
Inviato: JoeClark @ Gio Nov 09, 2017 12:15 pm
The universe has been expanding at an ever increasing rate and that, according to observations, the further you look the faster the galaxies are moving apart.
But as we look further into the sky we are also looking further back in time. If the galaxies are moving faster the further away they are, then it means they moved faster in the past. This surely this implies that as time has progressed the expansion has actually slowed down.
